Job Description
Full-time employee.
Remote with the flexibility to travel to our headquarters in Ohio for onboarding and 2-3 times a year.
Must live in the following states: OH,MI, IN, IL, TN, TX, NV, RI, MT, FL, CO, MA.

Position Summary:

The Enterprise Data Architect oversees enterprise data architecture strategy, standards, modeling, design, and governance. This role is responsible for developing data architecture roadmaps and plans, logical and physical data models, and providing guidance and governance for data infrastructure initiatives. The enterprise data architect partners cross-functionally to implement robust and scalable data architecture solutions across Midwest Tape’s enterprise platforms.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and maintain enterprise data architecture roadmaps, plans, principles, standards, and models.
  2. Work tightly coupled and in support of data / database engineering teams.
  3. Lead data modeling sessions to create logical, physical, and dimensional data models aligned to business needs.
  4. Design data pipelines, workflows, integrations, and architecture for data movement between databases, data warehouses, lakes, and other platforms.
  5. Establish data governance frameworks and standards surrounding data security, access, lineage, and metadata.
  6. Collaborate with lead engineers and analytics teams to optimize architecture for emerging company data workloads.
  7. Evaluate new data tools and technologies and provide recommendations based on architectural fit.
  8. Provide strategic guidance on data architecture vision, gap analysis, and tactical solutions.
  9. Review prototypes and proofs of concept to ensure feasibility before development.
  10. Communicate and present data architecture plans, models, principles, and standards to key business and technology stakeholders.
  11. Partner with business teams to identify pain points and opportunities to improve data architecture.
  12. Stay current on data architecture best practices and trends to enhance company data infrastructure.

Skills:

  • Expertise in data modeling techniques (Conceptual, Logical, Physical)
  • Knowledge of data pipelines, ETL/ELT, OLAP and schema design
  • Experience with data platforms like Hadoop, Flink, AWS Redshift, Snowflake, Oracle, and PostGreSQL
  • Understanding of data warehousing, lakehouses, and BI/analytics tools
  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks and metadata management
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex data concepts to stakeholders
  • Problem-solving skills and solution-oriented mindset
  • Experience implementing and managing data mesh or domain-driven distributed data architecture
  • Expertise with Agile and Scrum methodologies
  • Knowledge of scaling frameworks like LeSS and Kanban
  • Coaching, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong knowledge of AWS, Kafka, website development, eCommerce, and mobile technologies
  • Excellent organization, detail orientation, and communication skills

Preferred Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, business, or related area.

Preferred Experience:

  • Minimum 5+ years in a lead database development role in an enterprise setting
  • Experience working in a software product development company
  • 6-10 years of experience in a data solutions architect role
