Job Description

Position Summary:

211 LA is searching for an experienced Systems Administrator committed to safeguarding critical systems, constructing innovative solutions, deploying software and hardware, delivering training, and contributing to formulating the overall IT strategy. The Systems Administrator will drive breakthrough innovations, spearhead challenging assignments, and be accountable for tangible outcomes. The ideal candidate thrives on applying their expertise to an information and referral industry, crafting practical solutions for comprehensive social services and disaster support in Los Angeles County.

Objectives of this role:

  • Maintain essential IT infrastructure, encompassing operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, email systems, laptops, desktops, software, and hardware.

  • Lead projects and solutions within broader business initiatives.

  • Manage business-critical IT tasks, providing a competitive advantage in the global marketplace.

  • Enhance business processes, foster innovation, and develop analytics for meaningful insights.

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, ensuring effective communication of project status, activities, and achievements.

Responsibilities:
General Systems Administration:

  • Perform server administration tasks, including user/group management, security permissions, and group policies.

  • Monitor system health, investigate event-log warnings/errors, and ensure seamless integration of system architecture components.

  • Oversee data center health, troubleshoot hardware issues, and contribute to building, testing, and maintaining new servers.

AWS System Operations:

  • Manage and operate AWS infrastructure, provisioning EC2 instances, configuring networking, managing storage, and setting up databases.

  • Implement security measures for AWS resources, configure and maintain security groups using AWS IAM, and ensure compliance with security standards.

  • Automate operational tasks and deployments using tools like AWS CloudFormation and Systems Manager.

  • Design and implement backup and disaster recovery strategies for AWS environments.

AWS Development Operations:

  • Define automated monitoring, deployment, and repair strategies using Ops tools.

  • Build and maintain tools for deployment, monitoring, and operations.

  • Assist with CI/CD processes, mentor teams, and ensure adherence to best practices.

  • Manage infrastructure performance and deployment of applications.

RedHat Linux Administration:

  • Utilize essential tools for handling files, directories, command-line environments, and documentation.

  • Perform RedHat Linux administration tasks, including basic firewall and SELinux configuration.

  • Implement and manage users, groups, security, and essential container management.

Database Administration:

  • Build high-availability database systems based on end users' roles.

  • Design and implement databases, define users, and enable data distribution.

  • Implement high-speed transaction recovery techniques, backup data, and manage parameters for fast query responses.

  • Monitor database performance, perform tests and evaluations, and ensure data security and integrity.

Application Services Administration:

  • Maintain a secure IT environment for software applications.

  • Facilitate application security administration, update processes, and notify users of potential service interruptions.

Information Systems Security Administration:

  • Monitor networks for security breaches, investigate incidents, and use security software for protection.

  • Regularly check for vulnerabilities in computer and network systems.

Programming/Scripting:

  • Write programs in various languages (PHP, python, bash).

  • Update and expand existing programs, test for errors, and fix faulty lines of code.

  • Create, modify, and test code or scripts for software development.

HIPAA System Administration:

  • Lead efforts for HIPAA compliance in securing, backing up, and protecting personal information in the database.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven success in an IT role.

  • Experience in programming languages, operating systems, enterprise backup and recovery, systems monitoring tools, active directories, virtualization, HTTP traffic, content delivery, and caching.

  • Project management, application design and integration, and cloud computing expertise.

  • Analyzing and repairing large-scale distributed systems, creating volumes, assigning them to servers, and remote replication.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or computer science (or equivalent).

  • Knowledge of Linux systems administration.

  • Professional certifications (AWS, Linux).

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
