Job Description

Georges Media Group, the largest media organization in Louisiana, seeks an enterprising reporter for one of the best journalism beats in the Deep South: Louisiana politics and government.

Georges Media, a locally owned company with a track record of growth, oversees The Times-Picayune, The Advocate, The Shreveport-Bossier Advocate and The Acadiana Advocate. Our media brands have received five Pulitzer Prizes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

We’re looking for someone who can cover the halls of power in and around Baton Rouge, a city whose politics are as delicious as its Cajun and Creole cuisine.

You'd round out a team of talented journalists who cover the governor, the legislature, and various state agencies. You’d write about new laws, political campaigns, and factions warring for influence over policy changes that impact thousands of Louisianans.

The ideal candidate will be a team player who is as committed to covering the people affected by state politics as they are to covering the big political players. You should bring curiosity, passion and creativity to the role, and have a history of breaking news and developing complex enterprise.

You should also be comfortable with alternate forms of storytelling that engage readers, such as digital-only content.

We are a seven-day, home-delivered newspaper with a growing digital subscriber base. We are fiercely committed to our mission: to create impactful journalism that is indispensable to readers. Our news coverage, produced in four distinct markets, aims to hold the powerful accountable, unite our communities and celebrate Louisiana.

We are also an equal-opportunity employer, committed to recruiting, maintaining and developing a diverse workforce while providing unique opportunities and career paths for our employees. List of preferred qualifications aside, we invite applicants of all backgrounds and experience levels to apply.

This position offers a competitive salary and benefits package that includes medical, vision and dental insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, paid parental leave and 401K plan.

Preferred qualifications:

- At least three years reporting experience (state or local political reporting experience a bonus)

- Strong writing and grammar skills

- Curiosity about the topics you cover, dedication to the journalism you produce, and empathy for the audience you serve
