Reporting to: Offshore Wind Communications Director 
Supporting: ELM and New England for Offshore Wind  

 

The Environmental League of Massachusetts (ELM) is committed to advocating for policy that meets the scale and urgency of our environmental challenges. We are recruiting an Offshore Wind Communications Coordinator to support the New England for Offshore Wind (NE4OSW) coalition, with work focusing on a Local Communications Program that will provide training, capacity, and support for offshore wind messaging in key communities throughout New England. 

 

NE4OSW is a broad-based coalition committed to combatting climate change by increasing the supply of clean energy to our regional grid through more procurements of responsibly developed offshore wind. The Offshore Wind Communications Coordinator will be an integral member of a collegial and effective 18-person advocacy team within ELM and will work closely with and support key NE4OSW partners’ local communications campaigns on offshore wind. Read our mission, vision, and values. 

 

General Description
The Communications Coordinator supports our campaign to grow local community support of responsibly developed offshore wind energy facilities in New England. They will be responsible for administering and supporting the coalition’s communications subgrant program. The Communications Coordinator will report to the Offshore Wind Communications Director and work in close collaboration with ELM’s Offshore Wind Community Manager, Offshore Wind Director, Policy and Advocacy Coordinator, and Vice President of Policy. 

 

Responsibilities:  

Coordinate Communications Program Logistics and Subgrants 

  • Support expansion of NE4OSW partner community in key local areas throughout New England 
  • Coordinate NE4OSW coalition’s communications subgrant application process and manage and monitor grantees’ progress 
  • Enable Local Communications Program development through research on coalition partners, affiliates, media outlets, and social media activities, as well as news monitoring 
  • Ensure community partners have the necessary tools for successful Communications Program events  
  • Coordinate communications trainings for key NE4OSW partners 
  • Coordinate press release distribution, LTEs/Op-Ed submissions, content posting for Local Communications Program campaigns 
  • Ensure successful completion of paid media opportunities for Local Communications Program campaigns 

              Build NE4OSW Coalition Brand  

              • Ensure NE4OSW has a presence at local offshore wind-related events through research and media monitoring 
              • Drive NE4OSW social media programs and analytics for X, Instagram, and LinkedIn to build the NE4OSW coalition’s brand recognition and amplify coalition and program activities 
              • Support offshore wind team in accomplishing objectives 

                   

                  Qualifications:  

                  Required 

                  • Experience in communications or journalism, including implementing social media campaigns with tangible outcomes 
                  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal   
                  • Understanding of environmental issues and the energy transition 
                  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment; ability to prioritize and effectively manage tasks in a fast–paced work environment; strong organizational skills; demonstrated ability to meet deadlines  
                  • Ability to effectively execute on projects and tasks with minimal supervision 
                  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of time as needed, to locations across New England 
                  • Passion for people and coalition work 

                  Preferred 

                  • Understanding of offshore wind energy 
                  • Understanding of paid media campaigns 
                  • Experience supporting small- to medium-size community events

                  While the role is typically 40 hours per week, given the nature of the work, the Coordinator will periodically be expected to work during evenings and weekends and will have some periods of heightened activity. The position can be based in any New England state and will require periodic travel within New England, including to ELM’s Boston office. We are willing to be flexible to accommodate remote work and a flexible schedule if requested. 

                   

                  Salary Range: $58,000 to $65,000, depending on experience
