Director of Advertising

The Park Record, voice of Park City, Utah, since the 1880s, seeks dynamic, ambitious advertising director to help lead print and online news organization under new local ownership focused on strengthening community. Must be resilient and people-oriented while building an ever-improving sales effort to sustain strong community journalism. Strong presentation and closing skills required, along with the ability to teach veteran sellers new skills and recruit talented prospects to reach revenue goals for newspaper, magazine, event, and online products.

Position Summary: An Advertising Director develops, implements, and manages the company's advertising strategy, from a financial, sales and technical perspective. The position develops sales budgets and projections for advertising. The position provides supervision and development of a team of advertising professionals. The Advertising Director is responsible for all lines of revenue (display, digital, classifieds, mobile, and events), negotiating client contracts, tracking performance to goal, and motivating sellers to achieve company and personal goals.

Key Responsibilities: • Develops and implements strategic sales plan and forecasts to achieve corporate objectives for products and services. • Develops and manages sales/marketing operating budgets. • Directs sales forecasting activities and sets performance goals accordingly. • Directs market channel development activity and coordinates sales distribution by establishing sales territories, quotas, and goals. • Directs the efforts of inside sales professionals, business development managers, and advertising assistants to achieve/exceed sales goals. May manage other departments such as classifieds and advertising production. • Develops and recommends product positioning, packaging, and pricing strategy to produce the highest possible long-term market share. • Anticipates trends and/or changing market conditions and takes appropriate action to implement new strategies on a timely basis. • Monitors competitor products, sales, and marketing activities. • Develops new strategies, tactics, and plans to stay relevant in the market and to drive revenue. • Creates and maintains reports to track all key metrics of advertising business measures (i.e., lines, revenue, ad count, active accounts, classifications performances) • Ensures cost-effective advertising operations through budget planning, analysis, implementation and control. • Prepares reports and tracks revenue and expense budgets for advertising department. • Completes month-end reports that detail operational plans, financial results, and activities of the department, including seller’s performance to goal. • Facilitates sales meetings and provides regular training for all advertising personnel to ensure their success and career development. • Counsels all advertising employees on goals, job expectations, challenges, solutions, billing questions and customer complaints. • Meets with key clients, assisting sales representative with maintaining relationships and negotiating/closing deals. • Motivates the sales team and inspires them to stay focused on goals. • Represents the company’s products and services at various conferences, trade fairs, and networking events to attract prospective clients. • Attends company meetings and effectively communicates with all levels of the organization and shared services. • Interviews and hires sales professionals.

Experience / Qualifications: • Requires a bachelor's degree with at least 10 years’ experience in the field. • Previous sales supervisor experience required to lead and direct the work of others. • Familiarity with marketing and advertising concepts related to print, mobile, and digital. • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
