Internal Auditor

The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc. (MBN) is seeking an Internal Auditor for our Headquarters in Springfield, VA. The Internal Auditor will develop objective assurance and advisory activities designed to add value and improve MBN' operations. The successful candidate will bring a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluating and improving the effectiveness of MBN's governance, risk management, and control processes. The Internal Auditor will also provide reasonable assurance that MBN complies with applicable statutes, rules, policies, and regulations.

Work is performed under the supervision of the CFO and is guided by 2 C.F.R 200 and MBN's policies and procedures, Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Specific Duties / Responsibilities:
  • Plan and execute financial, operational and compliance audits using a risk-based approach to determine effectiveness of internal controls and the level of compliance with internal and external governance.
  • Conduct entrance and exit conferences with MBN Directors to review the scope and results of the audits.
  • Manage audit timelines to ensure the timely reporting of identified risks and issues; report delays and issues in overall audit to management and lead resolution of audit project issues.
  • Prepare quality written interim and final audit reports in accordance with professional auditing standards. The Internal Auditor will review Corrective Action Plans from Management and conduct follow-up reviews to evaluate the implementation of audit finding recommendations.
  • Conduct assessments of organizational risk and prepare the risk register and heat map to allow Management to focus actions on high-risk areas.
  • Learn and understand complex business processes and identify risks for processes and systems, regulatory compliance, organization, policy, and technology. Identify areas for business process improvement and make recommendations to Management.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes to ensure MBN remains at the forefront of compliance and risk management.
Other duties:
  • The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties and take on other responsibilities as dictated by events and circumstances.
Candidates are required to have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related area is preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of financial and cost accounting per Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for nonprofit organizations is required.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations including the 2 C.F.R. 200 is required. Experience with nonprofit organizations and the management of federal grants is a plus.
  • Advanced working knowledge of accounting to include general ledger, accounts payable, disbursement, payroll, income tax, and banking is required.
  • 5 years of "hands-on" internal or external auditing including a strong knowledge of AICPA or IIA audit standards are required.
  • Advanced Excel skills, and Costpoint experience are required. Experience with other accounting and auditing software applications is a plus.
  • Ability to respond swiftly to different demands, manage multiple complex tasks in a fast-moving environment and to effectively communicate (verbal and written) information to all stakeholders is required.
  • Professional certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) is required. Additional certification as a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or Certified in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) is a plus.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical skills, and attention to detail is required.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and with purpose is required.
  • Experience with accounting in a multi-currency environment a plus.
