Job Summary

*Telework (Within Minnesota or Neighboring States) and Flexible Hours Options Are Available.

This position supports the agency's mission and priority work of the Resettlement Program Office (RPO) by providing communications to advance equity, raise public awareness, and provide critical information about programs and services for internal and external audiences. This position is relied upon to plan, develop, coordinate, and implement communications strategy, procedures, and activities for DHS and RPO to ensure internal and external stakeholders are well informed. This position offers consultation to subject matter experts on communications strategy, best practices, and implementation. This position is responsible for leading work groups to advance and implement new initiatives for the administration. This position provides support to the RPO in coordination with the Commissioner's Office Communications Teams, including conducting research and developing key messages for senior leadership; using an equity lens in decisions and actions related to this role.

Some responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Develop and implement internal and external communication plans in collaboration with RPO leadership, management, and program experts.
  • Collaborate with agency wide teams to develop and implement departmentwide communication strategy.
  • Lead content development for RPO including effective messaging for various target audiences delivered through a variety of communication channels.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

To facilitate proper crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

Three (3) years professional experience in the communication field synthesizing information and writing diverse communications for a variety of audiences.

Experience must clearly demonstrate:
  • Understanding of journalistic processes and methods, with mastery of Associated Press Style.
  • Understanding of the importance of equity and inclusion in communications, and how to integrate an equity lens in decision-making.
  • Creative problem solving in regards to and expert knowledge of effective communication strategy.
  • Incorporating plain language, accessibility, equity and other state standards in communication products.

*Bachelor's degree in journalism, Strategic Communication, or another closely related fields may substitute for one (1) year of work experience.

**Master's degree in journalism, Strategic Communication, or another closely related fields may substitute for two (2) years of work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures.
  • Project and program management skills to identify, improve and make recommendations.
  • Knowledgeable of DHS communications protocols, channels of communication and policies.
  • Knowledge of privacy and government data practices laws.
  • Strong human relations and communication skills; communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing; respond openly to requests and concerns.
  • Ability to develop and coordinate new communication initiatives.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Sensitivity to and respectfulness of cultural and other differences that he/she/they will encounter with co-workers and customers.

Additional Requirements
  • Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) criminal background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
