Job Details:

Gillette Children's is seeking a distinguished leader in the field of pediatric orthopedics to occupy the Orthopedic Section Chief position. The Section Chief is a clinical leader who works with administrative dyad partners to ensure that the efforts of section members align with the mission and vision of Gillette Children’s. To help Gillette Children’s achieve its patient centered mission, the Section Chief provides a strategic vision for their section, collaborates for operational effectiveness, promotes the development and wellbeing of their providers, and supports a culture of safety, and fosters discovery through research and innovation to improve patient care.

The Section Chief is first and foremost a leader in clinical care with most of their time dedicated to patient care. This may include inpatient care, outpatient care, surgical services, call coverage, communications, referrals, rounding, participation on interdisciplinary teams, etc. The Chief reports to the medical director of the organization, who is the Chief Medical Officer.

Although the division is independent of a university hospital, Gillette maintains a close relationship with the University of Minnesota (U of MN) Department of Orthopedic Surgery. Many of Gillette’s orthopedic surgeons have faculty appointments. Gillette faculty serve as the primary pediatric orthopedic surgery education for the University of Minnesota Orthopedic Surgery Residency program and medical student. Candidates will have a leadership title at Gillette Children’s and will be eligible for a faculty title and rank at U of MN.

Gillette has one of the nation’s largest concentrations of pediatric orthopedic surgeons and board-certified pediatric rehabilitation medicine specialists. Gillette treats the rarest and most complex musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. The care model is structured around every child’s needs, focusing on conditions such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and rare genetic disorders such as Rett syndrome.

Gillette treats patients who have conditions and disabilities affecting the muscles, bones, brain and nervous system. They treat patients who require lifelong care as well as short-term care for conditions such as fractures or concussions.

The top conditions by volume in 2022 are:

  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Limb Length Discrepancy
  • Development Dysplasia of Hip
  • Epilepsy
  • Idiopathic Scoliosis

Gillette Children’s pediatric orthopedic surgeons are preeminent leaders in their field and include specialists from a range of clinical disciplines. The division has a core group of providers who specialize in spine, club foot, limb deformity, hand and upper extremity, and a core group that specializes in hips and a dedicated hip preservation clinic. Some of the physicians are generalists and everyone in the division does some trauma and sees patients with various neuromuscular conditions and syndromes.
