Job Brief

Reporting to the Director of Integrated Communication, the Lead Copywriter will direct a team of English and Spanish copywriters in the creation of short- and long-form copy for distribution across multiple marketing and communication channels included, but not limited to, print, television, radio, email, web and social media.

This work requires a creative, conceptual, and strategic writer who is experienced and confident both writing and leading the creation of concise, engaging copy about a wide variety of topics including electricity, water management and conservation, safety, engineering, energy efficiency, community outreach and events.

In addition to possessing top-shelf verbal skills, a growth mindset and a visionary outlook, the right candidate has a proven track record of delivering on multiple projects in a fast-moving and complex environment, excellent organizational and management skills, and the ability to mentor, motivate, and oversee colleagues and direct reports.

Job Responsibilities
 

  • Provides leadership for team of 2-6 staff and freelance copywriters and take an active role in developing staff to remain continuously relevant in the industry - including employee training and mentorship, employee engagement, and performance management.
  • Set the strategic direction and manage budget for a team of copywriters in a complex, fast-moving environment with rapidly evolving and changing priorities.
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional teams spanning creative, communications, marketing and research groups in the development of engaging and memorable concepts, copy and end-to-end marketing collateral aimed at prospects, customers and influencers. While aligning with our brand essence and voice, the Lead Copywriter pushes the boundaries of creative excellence, ensuring the highest quality storytelling across various mediums targeting internal and external audiences.
  • Carefully review department work for grammar, spelling, punctuation, proper syntax and semantics of own copy and copy generated by others.
  • Collaborate with creative partners to develop clear and compelling conceptual solutions-based on a deep understanding of our products, services and target audience-that drive business success.
  • Participate actively in brainstorming sessions and creative development efforts to drive strong conceptual solutions.
  • Work with other creative leads to make decisions affecting direction-rejecting some ideas and moving forward with others - ultimately setting professional creative standards for the entire team.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders and promote awareness and collaboration between Marketing, Analytics, Creative Services, Vehicle Delivery and Customer Experience teams.
  • Assist the project team overall in solving difficult challenges and overcoming obstacles, and proactively identify and resolve team issues before they surface.
  • Articulate and defend strategic thinking and creative direction, to audiences of varying levels, size, and backgrounds, including to team members or senior leadership teams.
  • Lead creative process integration and collaboration between multiple teams.
  • On-board new in-house writers and freelancers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 


Education

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.

Experience

Prefer Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, or advertising or combination of education and creative writing experience; along with 5 years minimum professional experience in the field, with demonstrated progressive responsibility.

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
