Job Description

The Dallas Morning News The multiplatform editor prepares stories for publication on multiple platforms, demonstrating an understanding of our digital and print audiences and maximizing reader engagement. This editor serves the reader by editing stories and graphics for clarity and accuracy, writing headlines that capture interest without being clickbait, and assessing and improving a story's presentation online and in print.

  • Edits staff copy for clarity, accuracy, structure and taste and can spot potential libel
  • Writes digital and print headlines that engage readers
  • Enhances a story's online presentation by adding or moving photos, adding links and/or embedding video
  • Writes photo captions that add value to digital or print presentation
  • Edits graphics for accuracy and clarity
  • Uses information from analytics tools to improve story performance online
  • Completes work by deadline
  • Adapts quickly to changing technologies and workflows
  • Juggles multiple assignments
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with colleagues
  • Works successfully as part of a team

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field; will consider additional experience in lieu of education.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in a newsroom.
  • Proficiency in publishing programs (Serif and NewsGate) and communication tools (Gmail, Gchat, Slack).
  • Flair for writing engaging headlines
