The editor manages a full-time team of four news and sports reporters and we also have a full stable of accomplished stringers who contribute regularly to our pages. Uncommon in today’s world, our newspaper has 70 percent paid household penetration on Amelia Island, our home base. Our twice-weekly newspaper reaches 7,000 engaged readers—and they actively respond on our op-ed pages and through community feedback.
Candidates must possess strong news judgment and have a passion for local community journalism. The editor will write stories and opinion pieces and be the go-to team leader for the newspaper, special sections and digital projects. This position answers to the Publisher and serves as an integral member of the newspaper’s management team.
Requirements for qualified candidates include a college degree; a minimum of three-plus years of experience in managing a newsroom; proficiency with InDesign and be web and social media savvy.
Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island feature more than 13 miles of beach along with a historic downtown and working marina and is the birthplace of the modern shrimping industry. We are a growing market in Nassau County, Florida, situated north of Jacksonville, on the Florida-Georgia state line.
