Development Manager
Summary
The Development Manager, reporting to the President/Editor, is the primary team member responsible for the planning, implementation, management, and oversight of Island Matters resource development. He/she oversees operations to generate income from individuals, foundations and corporations, and governmental sources. Currently, there is no Director of Development on the team, which re-directs several higher-level responsibilities to this position.
What is Island Matters?
Island Matters is a hyper-local, independent, online newspaper for South Padre Island, Texas. It is a 501(c)3 organization. There are currently two (2), full-time employees.
Chief Duties and Responsibilities
(1) Give the highest priority to strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward Business Memberships, grants, annual, major, and legacy gifts, including supporting the engagement of the President/Editor and Board of Directors in cultivating and soliciting major gifts.
(2) Support, motivate and inspire a culture of philanthropy that engages all stakeholders in the fundraising processes from prospect identification to strategy formulation, and cultivation, to solicitation and stewardship of donors.
(3) Furnish leadership and energy for the introduction and implementation of Business Memberships, grants, and an Annual Fund which provides a much-needed flexible revenue income stream to bolster operations.
(4) Provide direction for the day-to-day fundraising in realizing gifts from Business Memberships, annual giving, grants, fundraising events, sponsorships, and legacy giving.
(5) Work with the President/Editor, staff, and the Board of Directors to determine goals for fundraising programs.
(6) Conduct grant writing activities for obtaining both private and public funds which emphasize the identification of funding opportunities and submission of grant applications.
(7) Serve as the staff support to the Board of Directors including the preparation of meeting agendas, progress reports, program plans, and other resource material.
(8) Advise the President/Editor, staff, and the Board of significant issues, conditions, and challenges affecting resource development.
(9) Represent Island Matters passionately in the community with an emphasis on building relationships and telling the story.
(10) Oversee the gift accounting, stewardship, and reporting functions of the organization, making sure that donor and related research files are kept up-to-date and donors receive timely personal acknowledgment of gifts and annual progress reports.
