Kauai Based News Writer
Pacific Media Group has an opening for a Kaua’i-based reporter, who will write stories for the digital news site Kaua’i Now. The position also includes web content production and posting duties on a rotating basis with other reporters for Kaua’i Now and its sister site Big Island Now.
The position is part of a six-person team.
This also is a remote position and requires a person who is a self-starter and does not need constant direction. The reporter should be able to come up with quality story ideas, reliably meet deadlines, be flexible for breaking news, and be a team player.
Reporter duties for Kaua‘i Now (80% of time):
- Write and report a minimum of three original stories per week, with photos.
- Generate most of your own story ideas through sources, government agency meeting agendas, Internet, news sites and observation.
Web Producer duties for Big Island Now and Kaua’i Now (20% of time):
- Write/edit and post breaking news stories: road closures, vehicle crashes, fires, etc.
- Rewrite press releases into news stories sent by the state, counties, police departments, prosecuting attorney’s office and other government agencies.
- Rewrite relevant press releases sent by nonprofits, organizations and other sources.
- Post stories/rewrites on sites and social media, as well as a few other web duties.
Compensation: $50,000 - $52,000/year + Benefits
