The Pulitzer Center is seeking a Senior Editor to head its Artificial Intelligence Accountability  initiative. This is a leadership role with an inspiring mandate: to lead a diverse team of journalists to work collaboratively across borders on game-changing stories about the impact of AI systems in communities around the world.

The AI Senior Editor leads the Pulitzer Center’s AI Accountability Network, an initiative that  seeks to address the knowledge imbalance on artificial intelligence that exists in the journalism industry and to create a multidisciplinary and collaborative ecosystem that enables journalists to report on these fast-evolving technologies with skill, nuance, and impact.

The Network supports cohorts of AI Accountability fellows; grant-making for shorter-term AI accountability projects and machine learning projects; and the AI Spotlight Series, a training initiative.

The Senior Editor shapes the vision and the strategy of the AI Accountability Network and oversees the management of the fellows/grantees, and their projects. The person in this position is responsible for recruiting and coordinating a network of journalists and news organizations that report on the harms, opportunities and uses of artificial intelligence in society. The Senior Editor works closely with fellows and grantees to ensure that the projects we support meet the highest journalism standards, achieve maximum impact, and engage strategic and diverse audiences.

We are looking for an enterprising journalist with experience in technology and/or AI reporting, superb collaboration skills, and a track record managing diverse teams and projects.

The Pulitzer Center Editorial team empowers a global community of journalists and media outlets to deepen engagement with critical underreported issues, bridge divides, and spur change. We work closely with the Pulitzer Center’s Engagement and Education team to support the implementation of audience-centered outreach strategies that amplify the reach and impact of the stories. Our four priority geographic areas are the US, Latin America, Africa, and South and Southeast Asia.
