This journalist anticipates and covers religious and cultural holidays, such as Lunar New Year, Easter, Ramadan, Solstice, Juneteenth, Indigenous Peoples Day and Hanukkah. The reporter connects with communities and writes about celebrations and milestones, paying special attention to religions and communities that rarely appear in news stories. They're encouraged to think creatively about how to cover matters of faith and the way people’s religious and cultural identification and affiliation change as children grow into adults, families separate and people relocate to Oregon from around the world. We help this reporter examine and cover concrete ways people celebrate in homes and neighborhoods as well as in religious institutions across the state. As we know, food, décor, music, dance, art and literature can be as fundamental to this beat as liturgical and theological practices and discussions. This reporter works well in advance of holidays to meet print deadlines as well as offer live coverage of celebrations.
Salary and Benefits:
$51,000-$56,000
