Junior Graphic Designer
Our Junior Graphic Designer is located in our New Orleans office and is responsible for assisting the multimedia sales consultants with all aspects of the creative concept and design of their client's print and digital advertising. This position is also responsible for the creation of all in-house marketing materials and promotional elements as well as the design and layout of select special advertising sections.
Ad Design and Production
- Assesses materials and information needed to complete print ad in a format that will successfully reproduce in the newspaper and acquires materials from images library or creates the image using vector software.
- Creates the ad design using color and content guidelines specified by the sales department and customers to achieve client approval and attain commitment from customers to purchase future ads.
- Manipulates customer submitted “digital ready” ads to ensure there is compliance with our production facilities requirements for successful printing.
Special Section Layout and Design
- Creates the concept and design of the section utilizing a font and color palate and consistent design elements throughout the product.
- Builds the section using desktop publishing software by placing headers, section information, display ads, and content and art throughout the pages.
- Monitors output of printed pages to ensure ad files and page graphics are correct for output to plate for printing on the press.
Commercial Job Production
- Prepares customer submitted files into an Advocated accepted format that will successfully print on The Advocate’s press.
- Monitors output of printed pages to ensure correct transfer.
Marketing and Promotion
- Designs sales sheets, rate cards, marketing materials, section calendars and other sales materials as needed.
- Creates promotional materials for The Advocate to create branding and awareness of our products.
Education, Experience, and Knowledge Requirements:
- Understanding of modern and relevant design as wells as typography principles for both print and digital applications
- Advanced knowledge of the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
- Knowledge in creating digital ads and animated GIFs
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high standard of quality and a positive attitude
- Ability to think creatively but also to take constructive criticism
- Ability to prioritize, organize and manage projects and deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- 1-3 years of experience working in related field with a strong portfolio that demonstrates knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
