The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY is seeking a tenure-track professor with a specialty in local and/or national television news. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in all aspects of local TV, from producing to live on-camera reporting. The Associate Professor will be the point person at the school for all things broadcast, from designing and teaching broadcast journalism courses to organizing TV conferences and panels at the school. They will also help the school explore new directions for broadcast journalism. Additionally, he Associate Professor will act as a mentor for our students interested in a career in TV news. We expect the candidate to have strong connections to TV stations and/or networks and assist students in their searches for internships and jobs in the field. The position is expected to begin in Fall 2023.
Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Associate Professor of Broadcast Journalism will have duties that include but are not limited to:
- Designs and modifies courses that will develop the next generation of broadcast journalists;
- Develops and maintains an active portfolio of broadcast journalism projects;
- Provides strong mentoring to students;
- Brings enthusiasm and strong pedagogy to teaching;
- Participates actively in public and professional service;
- Participates in service related to the life of the school;
- Engages in a practical, hands-on program of teaching.
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law.

Qualifications:
Master's degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
A preferred candidate should have:
- A track record of broadcast journalism at the local and national levels.
- Strong belief in informing, engaging and fostering diverse communities with broadcast journalism.
- Ability to explore new forms of broadcast journalism.
- Possess skills that are current and competitive as the news industry rapidly changes
- Ability to use and teach industry standard cameras, video editing software and newsroom production tools.
- Evidence of strong teaching experience.
- Evidence of a clear agenda for continued journalistic work.
- Evidence of industry leadership through social media and conferences/panels.
