As the Newspaper Mailroom Supervisor, you will oversee the efficient operation of the mailroom department within our newspaper organization. Your responsibilities will include managing a team, ensuring timely processing and distribution of newspapers, coordinating with other departments, and maintaining equipment. You will play a crucial role in maintaining the quality and timely delivery of our newspaper to subscribers and distribution partners.

 

STATUS: Full-time, Salary

REPORTS TO: Production Director

COMPENSATION: $55,000 salary per year

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Supervision and Leadership: Lead and supervise a team of mailroom staff, including hiring, training and performance management.
  • Operational Management: Ensure smooth and efficient operation of the mailroom department, including scheduling staff, assigning tasks, and monitoring workflow.
  • Distribution Coordination: Coordinate with distribution partners to ensure accurate and timely delivery of newspapers to subscribers, newsstands, and other distribution points.
  • Quality Control: Maintain high standards of quality control to ensure that newspapers are printed, sorted, and packaged correctly. Inventory Management: Oversee inventory of supplies and equipment necessary for mailroom operations, and ensure timely replenishment as needed. Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies, and implement measures to promote a safe working environment.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Oversee maintenance and repair of mailroom equipment, and coordinate with vendors for servicing and upgrades as necessary.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity in the mailroom department.
  • Reporting: Prepare regular reports on mailroom operations, including productivity metrics, inventory levels, and any issues or challenges encountered.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments such as printing, editorial, and circulation to ensure smooth coordination of newspaper production and distribution.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

  • Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in a mailroom or similar operational environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively lead and motivate a team.
  • Knowledge of mailroom operations, including sorting, packaging, and distribution processes.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in a warehouse or production setting.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and experience with mailroom equipment and software.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, to accommodate production schedules and deadlines.

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional education or training in logistics, operations management, or a related field is preferred.
