The Poynter Institute seeks to expand its world-class faculty with someone who can lead and evolve signature TV & broadcast workshops like the Poynter Producer Project and our TV Power Reporting Academy – and create new training programs to serve the next generation of broadcast journalists and leaders.

We’re looking for an accomplished broadcast journalist who is entrepreneurial and well-connected to help develop and deliver relevant training for TV & visual journalists at all levels.  Successful candidates will be skilled communicators with a track record of promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, a deep commitment to journalism, and the ability to help media professionals improve their craft, leadership skills, and ethical decision-making.

Along with public programs, a considerable part of the job is consulting and training that is customized to the needs of specific news organizations or related entities.

Candidates who advance in this process will be asked to demonstrate an example of teaching or a professional presentation. Be prepared to share ideas for how to engage with Poynter’s core audience of journalists: live and in person, hybrid with remote components, and asynchronous.

Poynter aims to create best practices to guide quality journalism around the world. That goal is best served by a multi-generational staff who embody a range of life experiences and viewpoints. Candidates of all cultures and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of journalism experience, with at least 3 years of supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • A record of editorial accomplishment and innovation in broadcast journalism
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strong public speaking presence; teaching & training experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel regularly.
