TEACHING FACULTY I
The School of Journalism & Mass Communication seeks an instructional academic staff colleague experienced in video storytelling in journalism and/or strategic communication (advertising, public relations, marketing, etc.).
A successful candidate will teach and assess undergraduate students in video-storytelling professional skills courses, creating an inclusive and equitable climate in their classroom. This person will help students develop multimedia skills and knowledge of media writing styles, emphasizing video storytelling. Applicants should demonstrate clear potential to engage effectively with students to help them understand principles of media writing and production and develop key skills and ethical practices. This colleague will recommend instructional innovations to improve learning outcomes.
Potential courses taught will include J425: Video Journalism, which produces The Badger Report, an award-winning newscast reported, written, produced, and edited by students in the class each week (watch at https://youtu.be/FwOeeVi1Qbs); J456: Long-Form Video, a popular course producing documentaries in journalism and strategic communication; and other video or audio-based storytelling courses in our undergraduate major. The position offers opportunities to leverage technology and creatively define the objectives of the School's program in training future video journalists, as well as develop new courses and techniques in such areas as video for social impact, corporate video production, investigative video storytelling, and other areas to support the department's aim to keep pace with current industry practices.
The position is a nine-month/academic year appointment. We are seeking to hire a colleague at either a 66% appointment (four courses per year) or a 100% appointment (six courses per year).
In some cases, the person in this position will interact with and oversee the work of instructional support staff, such as technology consultants and instructional designers, teaching assistants or graders.
