Coda is seeking an energetic digital publishing leader for the role of Chief of Product. The successful candidate will be able to take charge of developing our editorial products and connect audiences with our ambitious international journalism in a senior management role that spans editorial, product, technology and revenue strategy. This entails:
Guiding strategic decisions on the delivery of our storytelling across platforms and partnerships.
Identifying the ways our editorial content and products can most effectively contribute to greater public understanding of the topics we cover.
Grappling with audience metrics, user experience, and revenue models to expand and deepen our audience loyalty and engagement.
Spearheading newsroom innovation.
The Chief of Product will work side by side with Coda’s Publisher and the Editor-in-Chief to champion our unique editorial mission by growing the reach and impact of our dynamic newsroom of reporters, editors, multimedia producers, and videographers. Our journalists in multiple countries have been recognized for their work on surveillance, disinformation, human rights, historical memory, among other interconnected topics, and have won prestigious awards from investigative reporting to podcasting.

The person in this role will work intensively and holistically on our journalism, audience, and business roadmaps to help us reach ambitious editorial and revenue milestones. This job is about identifying opportunities, setting priorities, working on budgets, understanding emerging technologies underpinning new editorial products, informing our story offerings with new product features, sparking new businesses, and collaborating with our staff across function areas.
Defining our product objectives and their market opportunities — including audience and revenue — and establishing success metrics and a development cycle.
Overseeing and maintaining engagement strategies and membership programming in support of our reader revenue and loyalty goals.
Managing our editorial product creation.
Implementing a development process that employs analytics and testing for products in alignment with audience and business goals.
Overseeing audience growth strategies.
Guiding strategy on the products underpinning our storytelling.
Working with our journalists to foster an intellectually curious workspace that embraces innovation.
