We’re working on expanding PolitiFact’s award-winning fact-checking in 2021. And you might be the person to help us do it.
We are looking for a summer intern to assist our audience engagement at PolitiFact (part of the Poynter Institute for Media Studies). Can’t resist a good Twitter thread? Do you get all the political newsletters and need more? Do you geek out over Instagram and TikTok storytelling? This is the summer gig for you.
As PolitiFact’s audience intern, you can expect to create social media graphics and post to social media in live event situations, develop social publishing schedules for enterprise projects, track site and social analytics, and other roles we’re looking at with a new administration and new fact-checking formats. You’ll build skills curating and publishing to PolitiFact’s social media accounts with a combined 1.5 million followers.
On social media, PolitiFact values being correct before being first (... it’s fact-checking, after all). We’re looking for an intern with the news judgment to swiftly make the age-old determination: to tweet, or not to tweet.
The PolitiFact audience internship is a summer program aimed at giving hands-on experience in a nonprofit newsroom. The intern will work with our audience engagement editor as well as the entire PolitiFact team across the country. The best applicants will have had previous news internships, a formal journalism education or extensive training and a variety of different work experiences.
The internship runs 10-12 weeks from June to August and it is remote (plan to work Eastern Standard Time office hours). It pays $600 per week and offers structured mentorship from Poynter’s in-house journalism experts.
