Media Relations Specialist
The Media Relations Specialist is a full-time position that will provide media relations support for the department. This position can be located in either the Washington, DC or New York office. The Media Relations Specialist focuses on a range of media relations activities that enhance visibility and promote the capabilities of the firm, its practices, and individual attorneys. The Media Relations Specialist contributes to the support of the firm’s national and regional media needs to increase the visibility in target markets. The Media Relations Specialist will work closely with others on the Media/PR team to implement other profile raising efforts and initiatives designed to present a positive public image for Arnold & Porter, including writing and editing content for a variety of outlets; ensuring the firm’s house style and editorial guidelines are implemented; maintaining currency of news and recognition items on the website and intranet; tracking and circulating press coverage and assisting with quarterly ROI reports to share with management and the PR team; and vetting profile-raising opportunities that increase the firm’s footprint. The Specialist will provide some support to marketing awards tracking and writing and contribute to other special projects as assigned.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Drafting news items and press releases for posting on the firm’s website and intranet.
- Pitching compelling stories to national and trade publications that elevate firm initiatives and attorney successes.
- Pitching and coordinating attorney-authored articles in key target publications.
- Developing reporter backgrounders and topical dossiers to help the PR/Media team host reporter roundtables, meet-and-greets, and interviews.
- Strategically developing targeted media lists by identifying appropriate target reporters and publications.
- Monitoring, tracking, and circulating media coverage.
- Contributing to quarterly ROI reports with media statistics.
- Serving as point of contact for obtaining editorial corrections, securing reprint rights, and otherwise coordinating with external publications.
- Managing PR-related vendors including Meltwater, Roxhill, etc. and understanding and using each tools’ functionality.
- As needed, contributing to fulfilling individual, practice, and firm requests for historical data.
- Managing, scheduling and logistics for firm photographer in NY for attorney bio photos.
- Providing general support to the Media Relations, Senior Manager and Media Relations Manager as needed.
- Maintaining an active knowledge of industry trends and best practices to aid in the department’s marketing communications efforts. Attending relevant Legal Marketing and PR events to further knowledge and relationships.
Qualifications:
- Four year college degree required, preferably in marketing, communications, or journalism.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in marketing and/or public relations with a strong emphasis on writing and editing.
- Law firm or professional services firm experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of legal directories highly desired.
- Ability to use Internet sources required.
- Knowledge of PR/Media tools including Meltwater.
- Proficiency in Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite and/or related software.
- Ability to exhibit good judgment when interacting with attorneys and media/publishing companies.
- Strong project management skills required.
- Ability to work comfortably with attorneys at all levels.
- Ability to effectively coordinate collection of information and data from multiple sources.
- Ability to make sound decisions and demonstrate a high degree of trustworthiness in handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Ability to exhibit sound judgment interacting with attorneys and media/publishing companies.
- Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines with strong problem solving skills.
