Established in 2007, award winning 88Nine Radio Milwaukee is a non-commercial, 501(c)(3), radio station broadcasting on 88.9 FM in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, airing an eclectic adult album alternative music format. A champion of music, arts and culture, neighborhoods and community organizations, Radio Milwaukee celebrates diversity and encourages community engagement to break down barriers and bring people together. Radio Milwaukee’s mission incorporates three distinct pillars- On-Air, online, and in the community.
Radio Milwaukee is also focused on the eclectic and thriving food scene, technology, art, performance, film, sports, local business, education, nonprofits and activism, to name a few. Weekly stories shine a spotlight on positive Milwaukee news—the arts, organizations and humans of Milwaukee who lift spirits and inspire change. These select news stories are intended to provide information to the greater region, encouraging participation in and within the city.
Radio Milwaukee has an operating budget of approximately $3.5M, has 24 dedicated staff, and is governed by an 11-member Board of Directors, representing the diverse music, nonprofit, business and faith communities of Milwaukee.
The radio station seeks an Executive Director who will provide a level of organizational leadership and strategy that will further its own development. This will include growth of core activities and development of new innovative programming, and a review of the organizational structure and governance approach. The next Executive Director will leverage the unique assets of Radio Milwaukee to build upon an organization that continues to thrive in a changing and dynamic time.
The next Executive Director will join Radio Milwaukee at an exciting time. Having emerged from the past two years with new initiatives underway and core strategic activities to expand, the new leader will join an organization that is poised to begin its next evolution after 15 years of strong success. Of particular importance to this next era will be the launch of HYFIN, a new Urban Alternative channel launching on Juneteenth 2022.
Of critical importance is the candidate’s ability to transform ideas into specific, goal-driven programs with measurable outcomes. The successful candidate will have demonstrated skills in operations and business management, including financial management and forecasting.
Specific experience in public media, or media generally, is not a requirement; however, knowledge of the sector is advantageous. Current or prior experience in the field or experiences that would result in a key understanding of the mission is advantageous but not required. Successful candidates may come from the nonprofit or for-profit sectors.
The expected salary range for this role is $140,000 - $160,000.
